Model T2 grows up

Development of Deakin University’s award winning design for a Model T for the 21st Century – the Model T2 - has entered a new stage.

A full-scale model of the three-wheeled T2 has been manufactured to become a major attraction at a number of symposiums and seminars and help create interest in taking the project to the next level – a working model.

“We’ve already exhibited the life-sized model at the Society of Auto Engineers Change by Design Conference In Melbourne earlier this month and it got a fantastic reception,” said project leader Dr Bernard Rolfe.

“It will be on display at the Avalon Airshow and a number of other events, so there is still plenty happening with the project.

“We’re working closely on a number of fronts aimed at developing a full-sized working model of the car that runs on compressed air.

“That presents plenty of challenges, but we’re used to those by now.

“What’s really pleasing is that we are finding a genuine commitment out there to bring this project to fruition, both from State and Federal Governments, and also from the private sector.

“In my mind, there’s no doubt it will happen. It will just require the same level of perseverance we showed when we became the only Australian university invited to take part, then ended up, with Aachen University in Germany, winning the challenge.”
