Alfred
Deakin – A Biography republished
Deakin University has sponsored the republication of Professor John La Nauze’s 1965 magisterial biography of Alfred Deakin.
The award-winning book is published in its modern form by Miegunyah Press as a compendium bringing together La Nauze’s original two volumes into one publication.
The new edition also has a new foreword, written by eminent historian Stuart Macintyre.
“Given the number of thorny public policy issues facing Australians today, it is very timely that we have the chance to appreciate, in one handsome volume, the extraordinary life and work of a ‘federation father’ who defined the core issues of Australian politics,” said Professor David Lowe, inaugural director of the Alfred Deakin Research Institute (ADRI).
The republication of Alfred Deakin – A Biography coincides with the opening of ADRI and the Alfred Deakin Prime Ministerial Library in the refurbished Dennys Lascelles Building at the Geelong Waterfront Campus.
August 3rd was also Alfred Deakin’s birthday. In 2009 he would have been 153.
As part of the birthday celebrations Professor Lowe was interviewed by Phillip Adams on ABC Radio National’s Late Night Live
