Excellent results for Deakin in ARC Awards

Deakin University has achieved excellent results in the Australian Research Council (ARC) 2010 awards announced on Monday 26 October 2009.

The University won 13 Discovery and 10 Linkage Round One awards - the best results in a number of years. These wins place Deakin 16th in the number of Discovery grants awarded and equal sixth in the number of Linkage grants awarded among Australian Universities.

“I want to commend all the Discovery and Linkage Chief Investigators and Linkage Partner Organisations involved,” said Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Lee Astheimer.

“In particular I extend my special congratulations to Professor Bill Logan who won two Discovery Grants and Professor Wanlei Zhou who won two Linkage Round One Grants.”

Professor Astheimer also made special mention of Dr Giovanni Turchini who was awarded an Australian Research Fellowship for an innovative project examining the ramping up the physiological potential for fish to produce beneficial omega 3 fatty acids. Dr Turchini’s work is featured in this month’s newsletter.

The work of other recipients will be featured in future additions.
